The COVID Cult

We’ve been in a pandemic for over two years. In that time there have been violations of human rights, families and friendships broken forever, and a thousand other things. Why? Because of the COVID cult.

A friend told me this whole pandemic thing reminds him of a cult. The people who follow the narrative and believe everything the media says. If you contradict them, they get furious and attack you. But are they really a cult or is that an exaggeration? What are the characteristics of a cult?

According to various international groups that study cults, these are the most common characteristics:

  • Indoctrination.

The teachings are repeated over and over. The COVID version: Get vaccinated, follow the science, maintain social distancing, wear a mask, get vaccinated, get vaccinated, get vaccinated. It’s for the good of everyone, wash your hands, cover your mouth and nose, get vaccinated, get vaccinated, get vaccinated.

  • Leaders make followers feel guilty or ashamed as a form of mental control.

If you don’t get vaccinated, you kill grandma, you kill children, you kill my kids. Follow what the experts say, don’t be ignorant, follow the science.

  • The cult promises salvation.

The only way to save yourself, to live freely is to accept what they offer: the vaccine. If you don’t, certain death awaits you.

  • Cognitive dissonance: critical thinking is forbidden and beliefs that defy logic and rationality are maintained.

The vaccine is perfect. My grandmother got vaccinated and died the next day, but I’m going to get vaccinated. If someone gets vaccinated and dies, it’s not from the vaccine. Never from the vaccine. If a healthy athlete gets vaccinated and has a heart attack, it’s not from the vaccine. If twenty thousand people suddenly die after getting vaccinated, it must be from something else. If a child gets vaccinated and dies two hours later, it’s not from the vaccine. Never from the vaccine, because our belief is perfect. We believe in science. Two weeks to flatten the curve, just two more weeks, two months, two years.

  • Appearance standards.

Often a specific appearance is required to belong to the group. This is the mask. Showing off by wearing a mask, changing your profile picture to one with a mask, wearing two, three, four masks. They’re the ones who play cop, making sure everyone wears a mask. They’re the ones who walk down a deserted street, no one around, and still wear the mask. The cowards who report you at the supermarket if they see you without one. For them it’s a status symbol, showing they belong to a superior group, the cult. When they see each other they nod, they wink, because they’re the ones who are going to save the world. They’re the superior and intelligent race.

  • They believe the end justifies the means.

Members commit immoral or unethical acts to fulfill their leader’s orders. Human rights? Gone!. If someone contracts the virus, into a cell! They must be detained, isolated, banned from entering supermarkets. If they don’t have food, let them die! They’re putting everyone in danger!

  • Subordination to the group requires followers to cut ties with friends or family if necessary.

Don’t spend Christmas with the unvaccinated, don’t invite anti-vax relatives, don’t include them in your wedding, don’t see them anymore. The unvaccinated can’t enter cinemas, zoos, restaurants, bars, anything. Expelled from society. The unvaccinated are crazy, ignorant, dangerous. We’re the important ones, they can die.

  • Following the rules established by the leader is rewarded.

If you get vaccinated, we’ll give you money. If you get vaccinated, we’ll give you a burger, with fries!. If you get vaccinated, you can travel freely, enter the country, swim in the pool, eat inside the restaurant and be warm and comfy.

  • The group is obsessed with increasing its number of followers.

The constant figures in the media: twenty percent vaccinated, fifty, sixty, no, we’ve reached ninety percent. Vaccinated by city, by country. More and more vaccinated. The more the better.

  • Asking questions, having doubts, or showing dissent are punished.

You post on Facebook: “I don’t want to get vaccinated,” and your lifelong friends attack you. Facebook blocks you for a week. You post on Twitter: “The vaccine can kill,” and Twitter suspends you forever. Your neighbors want to report you for the good of society. You voice your opinion and they fire you from your job.

I suppose if you joined the COVID cult, even unwillingly, you’ll be hating me after reading this. You’ll think: “Nobody brainwashed me!” But are you sure?

I’ll tell you this: if you played Russian roulette and got vaccinated, I’m sorry. If you got carried away and they deceived you, I’m sorry. If you became a member out of ego, screw you. And if you did it out of fear, I pity you.

Think and get out of that cult already. It’s pathetic.
